The Exhibit (La Muestra)

Antonio, 80years old & once a respected scuplture artist, now spends too much time alone in his studio, or so his wife thinks.  He receives a phone call from a friend inviting him to his opening, where Antonio wonders about possibly exhibiting again.  He starts to make the necessary phone calls, but as one friend tells him, “Your time was another time.”  Meanwhile, his wife, 2 sons, and a granddaughter leads a crusade to make Anotnio an exhibition.  “No” is just not an acceptable answer.  Will their hard work pay off and finally give Antonio the much needed boost in an exhibition?

The Exhibition plays Friday, March 19, 2010 at 2:35PM and Monday, March 22, 2010 at 7:40PM.

Tickets are now on sale for everyone at the CIFF website.

Desert of Forbidden Art

This documentary looks at one visionary’s exhaustive campaign to preserve prohibited Soviet artworks by stashing them in the desert.  1,700 miles from the eyes of the KGB, Igor Savitsky’s Karakalpakstan State Art Museum procured an eclectic collection by avant-garde artists who remained true to their visions, in the face of overwhelming odds.  By the time of his death in 1984, Savitsky had amassed 40,000 forbbiden works of art which are still threatened to this day.
